Now, we have tried to stay at different campgrounds because we want new experiences, of course, and we want to do an article to either tell you to go to a place or tell you not to go to a place. This happened to be one not to go to. We went here on Mother’s Day, and I’ll get into what this place is like now.
Everyone, I feel bad saying this, but it was really gross. It was terrible. It was gross. So, we were 18 in, off to try to level. I still remember sliding down. We got it as level as possible, but there was no way you would level the coach. It was just banged up. It looked like abandoned RVs there. Remember the radio? Is there some random broken radio on the site? This was a private campground, but it looked like a filthy trailer park. That’s what it looked like. There were old, beat-up trailers, and the road was full of potholes. Do you remember that? The swimming lake they had was green—it was swampy. The place was disgusting. They didn’t even have bathrooms; they had a laundry at the main office, but their bathrooms were port-a-johns dispersed throughout the campground. It was terrible, and it wasn’t even cheap. I was just about to say the cost was ridiculous. I think it was probably $70–$80 a night or something, which, if you watched our top five favorite campgrounds, most of them weren’t even that expensive, and they were beautiful places.
The next one was called Jugtown Mountain Campsites in Clinton, New Jersey. There’s a lot of New Jersey here. Kind of like a—Isn’t that sad? Nobody comes to visit New Jersey. These New Jersey people are probably watching this, but nobody comes here to see it. You’re right. Well, it’s just people. I mean, we have some other ones, uh… Anyway, I think this actually may have been grosser than the first one, but the sites were level, at least. Yeah, the sites were level, but you were surrounded by mud, sand ticks, and again, it was off-season, so we’ll give them that. But still, if you have a functional campground and guests, you must keep it clean. They also sold truck parts. Remember they had a whole truck yard? They were selling things, that kind of thing.
So, the most exciting thing happened to you. Both of us with the dog. Well, before we get into the dog, they did have a couple of positive things. Their bathroom was amazing; yes, it was—it was like a luxury bathroom. Everything else in the campground was pretty terrible, and the other positive thing is that they’re open all year, so we tried it, too. Yeah, it seemed like there were many permanent or long-term residents there, just like workers. You could see how the RVs were set up. First of all, it was in February, and there were a lot of large propane tanks. It just looked like people were there for a long time. However, one of the issues for us was that there were no leash laws enforced, at least not enforced. So, we were out walking—we had Sierra at the time, too—we were walking Bowser and Sierra. It was this past March or February, and we were walking when this dog suddenly came charging at us, full-on posture. Let’s go now! Sierra, our baby, passed away in June, but man, she would not back down. She squared off for a fight. She was going to fight, yeah. So, we were able to get them into the RV, and this dog was just not having good intentions. Then you had another incident with the same dog—the same dog—and the owner just opened the door of their RV and let the dog out. They didn’t care about anybody.
The next one, as I said in the video when we did the review (we’ll link it up above), had good bones and one of the nicest pools we’ve ever been to. The pool was amazing. It’s like a lap pool; it’s amazing, clean, and big. But the management, the owner, the attitudes were… I mean, terrible, and the place was run down. It wasn’t well-kept. We’re talking about Indian Rock RV Park in Jackson, New Jersey. Now, the reason why we chose this place is because we were trying to be somewhere close to the shore. Right? Much in the area? No. And a lot of places down there have breed restrictions and this and that, so they were open. Well, man, did I get a side of attitude… with a main dish of attitude and a side of more attitude.
I walked in, and if you watch that video, you know what I’m talking about. The look this woman gave me was like I just killed her dog. Like, “Who are you?” And it just went on from there. But the whole… the video—we’ll link it up above—you can watch the whole incident. It was just unbelievable. And it was, like you said, dirty. And what’s crazy is that it was a Saturday in the summer, and it was empty! We had the whole pool to ourselves. The entire pool to ourselves! I mean, you can see why. Also, as you mentioned in the last one, this seemed to be a place where many workers were staying. There were a lot of out-of-state license plates, but it was not like a summer resort you wanted to stay in near the Jersey Shore. And as we discussed, if it was $40 a night… it wasn’t! It was upwards, I believe, $95. It was $95, I’m pretty sure. It was close to that.
Now, this next one, we’ll hop over to the state of New York, which is just New Jersey on steroids. So, we went to this place called Never Sink River Resort. Never again. And never again will we go there. It’s in C.B.V., New York. It started when we drove in, getting to our site. It started. Every one of these campgrounds had different things, right? One was that the owners were nasty. The other, the campground, was dirty. The campers were the most… what’s the word I’m looking for? Rude? Right? Inconsiderate.
We pulled in and had to sit, everyone, for what? 20 minutes? They had problems finding where they should go or getting into their spot. So, they just stopped and blocked up the entire main thoroughfare there to get to the point that the campground workers—who were nice—had to come and help these people get to where they were supposed to go. But it just went on from there. The facilities were run down. The basketball court was terrible. Do you remember the ball had tumors coming out of it? The lake, or the river that they had, was like a wild zoo. There were screaming people jumping off bridges. It was wild. It was like Animal House. It was wild. But the biggest thing is that we just continued talking about inconsiderate. We showed this in the video. We just showed this in a recent video that we did, talking about campground behavior and stuff.
The garbage that these people left in the bathroom. The bathroom was the most disgusting thing we’ve ever seen. And on their site, there was one site where just a ton of people were staying together. It looked like they were making a bonfire of garbage. It was a pile of garbage that they just left. And the poor campground worker in the morning, on a Sunday morning, was there cleaning that crap up for these people. It’s so disgusting and rude. I couldn’t believe it. You might be saying, “Well, maybe they had nowhere to put the garbage.” Oh no, they did! The dumpster was 100 yards from their campsite, but they were too good for that. They piled the garbage for the peasants to pick up.
A family of DJs took over their beautiful pool, which had their boom box, and you could hear it throughout the campground. It was the only music you were going to listen to. Needless to say, we will never go back. It was almost like going… I don’t even want to say it was like going to a filthy city, but with trees. It was terrible. If we were paid to go there, we would not go.
The last one we haven’t been to in probably seven or eight years; we had our trailer, correct? Right, that’s before we even had a channel. So, it will be Pleasant Acres RV Campground in Sussex, New Jersey. I didn’t know what to say; it was not a great place. So, right, this was right when we first started our RV life, and we didn’t know much of what to look for, but yes, now it’s a Sun Resorts. I think they’ve cleaned it up. It was one of those places where you go, and I’m not bashing this, it’s just what people like to do. It was those sites that just had every inch covered with, like, stuff. Hashtag stuff. Seasonal stuff. Yes, it was just really cluttered and dirty-looking, and ugh—and expensive. Again, what you got was very expensive.
I don’t remember the pool there because it was quite a while ago. The landscaping was off. When we were coming out, there was a low-hanging tree that took part of our gutter and roof off. We just won’t be back there. Again, it may have improved; it’s been a while. I’m sure Sun Resorts they’re good for cleaning stuff up. It’s probably a lot more expensive now, but that’s one that we won’t be back to.
So, we want your feedback, everyone, because as we travel more outside of the East Coast, we want to be warned: should we go to these places, should we not? In the last video, we asked you to describe places you would recommend. We want this video to tell us places you would say to us to stay away from, not only for us but also for our viewers. Well, we saw one coming here. We’re in Indiana right now, and we saw a place that looked worse than all those five put together from the street. It looked scary from the street.
